Summary: I needed a smog test. Called, and set an appointment for 12:30 pm. I was greeted by name when I arrived. Very clean shop. Used the 15% Yelp Check-in discount. Out the door in about 30 minutes with my smog test completed. DETAILED REVIEWMy car will be 6 years old next month, and this was my car's first smog test. I looked at the Yelp one star reviews for Convoy Auto Repair, and had some concerns. When I looked more closely at those one star reviews, most said that the price was too high, but those reviews lacked a comparison from other service centers. For me, those one star reviews would be more compelling if the reviewer said they took their car to another repair shop and that shop either did the work at a substantially lower price, or said that the work was not needed. As I made my appointment, I kept those reviews in mind and was alert for anything unusual. This was my first time visiting Convoy Auto Repair and I put its address into my GPS. The GPS told me I had arrived, and that Convoy Auto Repair was on my right, but I could not see it. I turned right into the equivalent of a shopping center for automotive services. I could see a Midas Muffler, a tire store and Bumper Doc, but not Convoy Auto Repair. I kept driving and when I was in front of the Bumper Doc, I could see Convoy Auto Repair straight ahead. If you are new to Convoy Auto Repair, it is immediately south, and on the same side of the street, as the Costco (former Home Depot Expo). The shop is a long rectangle. The office is on the left or west end of the building, with 4-5 service bays to the right. I walked in the front door at my appointment time, I was surprised to be greeted by name. I was also surprised by how clean the mechanic was. He had no dirt or grime on his hands. His shirt was clean, free of dirt or spots, and looked like he had taken it off the dry cleaner's hanger 10 minutes before I arrived, even though we met at 12:30pm.My car was taken, and about 30 minutes later, the test results were back. I passed. The DMV's smog test results show the CA maximum emission levels and the average emission levels of cars similar to those being tested. A mechanic went over my results column-by-column to show that my emissions were 1-2% of the state allowance and about 10-15% of cars similar to mine. That was it. I was out the door, and later that afternoon I went to the California DMV and completed the on-line license plate renewal. I am now awaiting my renewal sticker. I wish everything in my life could be this easy and trouble-free.
Thank you for the detailed review it will be helpful to other clients. We know it can be a challenge for our first time customer to find us. After reading your review we have decided that due to lack of available signage on Convoy Street we are looking into a portable sign to place on Convoy and direct clients into the parking lot. This should be helpful.
