The holidays are officially upon us and so is the wintery cold weather! We hope you are staying dry and warm in San Diego and have a few fun suggestions on how to spend your week. Whether you prefer to stroll outside in the brisk, cold air or sit in a warm and cozy theater, we have come fun holiday ideas for you and your family to enjoy together.
Witness the San Diego Botanic Garden in Balboa Park transform into a shiny winter wonderland! From December 8th through the 23rd and the 26th through the 30th, from 5 to 9pm, the Botanic Garden becomes the Garden of Lights. The gardens are decorated with over 100,000 sparkling lights on the plants and trees. The Garden of Lights also features holiday crafts, horse-drawn wagon rides, marshmallow roasting, live entertainment, and visits with Santa, of course! If the weather permits, snow is forecasted for the weeks of December 9th through 16th and 26th through 30th. You and your family will also enjoy the festive poinsettia garden, which is decorated with a variety of different poinsettia plants. Thinking about adding a member (or two?) to your family this holiday? No, we're not talking about having a baby; we're talking about adopting a furry child! This Saturday, December 17th, at 1pm is the Ugly Sweater Party With Fido at Unleashed by Petco in Hillcrest. There will be puppy playtime, treats, and adoption partners on hand for those considering adopting a new pet this holiday. Unleashed by Petco offers the same knowledge offered by Petco in a unique, smaller neighborhood version of the store. Admission is free, so bring your pup to meet and mingle with other critters!
Whether you have seen it ten times or never before, The Nutcracker is always a magical experience to enjoy with your family during the holidays. From December 17th through the 23rd, you can enjoy the ballet performed at the San Diego Civic Theatre with the San Diego Symphony. If you choose to attend one of the matinee performances (2:30pm Saturday; 1pm or 5:30pm Sunday; 2:30pm Wednesday, Thursday & Friday) you will also be invited to enjoy a post-performance "Sugar Plum Party"; in the Theatre Grand Salon where you will meet members of the cast and enjoy some sweet treats!
