August is coming to a close, which means school is about to start and summer will be officially over. We have a few more tricks up our sleeve, though, for a family fun weekend. This weekend is all about exploring nature, ball games, and exercising for more than just your health.
Friday night, take the kids out to the Kumeyaay Lake Campground in Mission Trails Regional Park for “Owl Prowl”. This free event starts at 7:30pm and will last for approximately two hours. You will join a trial guide for a guided walk in search of local owls and other nighttime birds. Meet in the dirt parking lot on the corner of Bushy Hill Drive and Father Junipero Serra Trail, across from the Kumeyaay Lake Campground entrance.
This Saturday, August 20th, come out to cheer for the Padres as they take on the Marlins at 5:35pm. Immediately following what we hope will be a victory for the Padres, country music star Dierks Bentley will perform. His concert will begin approximately 35 minutes after the final out of the game. Dierks is a multi-platinum country music star with seven #1 singles and 10 Grammy nominations. You can purchase regular tickets to the game or VIP tickets, which include field reserved seats for the game and on field access to the concert stage. Don’t miss your chance to see Dierks Bentley perform at Petco Park this weekend.
On Sunday, why not enjoy some exercise for a good cause? The 34th America's Finest City Half Marathon and 5K benefits the Cabrillo National Monument and the Cancer Patients Alliance. The Half Marathon begins at historic Cabrillo National Monument at 7am and ends in beautiful Balboa Park. The 5k Run/Walk is a fast loop course within Balboa Park and starts at 6:45 am. It is important to note that the 163 Southbound will be closed from Interstate 8 to A Street from Saturday night at 11 pm until Sunday morning at 9 am. This is for replacement of 2.1 miles of sewer line adjacent to SR-163. Please plan ahead for your detour.
