Whether you’re waiting for your car to be serviced at Convoy Auto Repair, or you just happen to be in the neighborhood, Kearny Mesa is a great spot to grab a burger in San Diego. Here are our personal favorites.
- Smashburger - Located at 3737 Murphy Canyon Rd. near the Escondido Freeway, “smash. sizzle. savor.” is their motto. They begin by literally smashing a chunk of 100% Angus Beef on the hot grill, searing it and seasoning it to perfection. The burger is then placed on a butter-toasted artisan bun and topping with the best quality cheeses, freshest produce, and your favorite condiments. You can select from one of their recipes or create your own personalized burger with their myriad of ingredients. The prices are affordable and your burger is served on a plate, not in a bag like some of those other, more famous “burger joints.” Check out their Facebook and Twitter pages for more info.
- Original Tommy’s - Located at 7415 Clairemont Mesa Blvd. Tommy Koulax first introduced L.A. to his hamburgers on May 15, 1946, and years later, L.A.’s love affair with his chili-topped creation is still going strong. Lucky for us, Tommy’s has since expanded to San Diego. What began with a small shack on the corner of Beverly and Rampart Boulevards in Los Angeles, Tommy’s has now fed an estimated fifty million Southern Californians (and we are glad to be on that list!) Tommy’s Facebook and Twitter pages have more updates on these delicious burgers.
- Boll Weevil Located between the 163 and the I-15 on Clairemont Mesa Boulevard at the corner of Ruffin Road, is the Boll Weevil. They offer delicious burgers and barbecue as well as wholesome, hearty, and healthy food choices for hungry San Diegans. Boll Weevil first opened in 1967 serving great food to the community. Other items on the menu include: “tummy warmers”, meal-sized salads, chicken (fried or breaded), sandwiches, and more. Stay up to date with the menu at Boll Weevil with their Facebook page.
